Atlanta Child Custody Attorneys

Lawrenceville Modification Attorneys

Unfortunately, children are always in the middle of their parents' divorce. Parents who are angry at each other act out of emotion and use their children as pawns in their wars with each other. It is important for parents like these, and all divorcing parents, to have legal advice and counsel that keeps them focused on their goals and helps minimize the emotional toll divorce has on kids.

At our metro-Atlanta based law firm, The Wren Law Firm, our goal is to help divorcing parents address child custody issues during divorce by formulating imaginative custody solutions. Like the state of Georgia, we use the standard of "the best interests of the child" to guide us when developing proposals that both sides will accept.

Child Custody Arrangements

A traditional child custody arrangement usually assigns primary, physical custody to one parent, with the other parent receiving secondary physical custody with standard visitation rights. When parents are able to communicate, the non-custodial parent can usually exercise visitation outside of the standard visitation outlined in a settlement agreement whenever the parties agree. Both physical custody and legal custody arrangements must meet the standard of "best interests of the child" to be accepted by the court.

Modifications

Parents often need to change child custody arrangements when they have experienced major changes in their lives such as:

  • Job loss
  • Moving out of state because of remarriage or new job
  • Illness or disability

Our attorneys have successfully represented parents who may seek a modification of child custody when the other parent is no longer able to provide a suitable environment for the child because of an addiction, criminal conviction or deprivation. We also represent parents who are fighting a modification of custody requested by their ex-spouses. As with original child custody orders, modifications must be demonstrated to be in the best interests of the child to be approved by the court.
